• TLC was founded in 1969 by a group of parents who desired to provide children with profound disabilities a local option for quality support services.
  • In the last five decades, TLC has grown in response to the needs of the community, and today serves more than 500 individuals and families across the Triangle and eastern North Carolina with residential services, early childhood intervention services, respite care, and education services.

  • ECIS utilizes an interdisciplinary approach, involving team members from different disciplines as well as the parents.
  • We provide intervention services in a variety of ways to meet the needs of the families we serve.
  • First Steps Program:
    • Program allows parents to take the first steps in mapping their child’s developmental milestones, strengths and challenges. Parents work with TLC’s Developmental Assessment Team.
    • Be able to catch developmental concerns and red flags as early as possible.
    • Diagnostic Assessment includes, but not limited to, a comprehensive clinical assessment and/or developmental assessment looking at all areas of development including cognitive, communication, motor skills, social-emotional and adaptive (self-help skills) and specific diagnostic assessment for Autism.
    • Receive recommendations including, but not limited to, tips and strategies to help you and your child, referrals for specific therapy interventions such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work services, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other community resources.
  • Home-Based Services:
    • We provide home-based services to children and families in Wake County and throughout the Triangle.
    • ECIS is provided to children from birth to 5 years who are at risk or showing signs of developmental delays or have a specific diagnosis.
    • Therapists provide educational support to families of young children with special needs and work directly with the child in order to help him or her strengthen the necessary skills and meet developmental milestones before entering pre-k.
    • Services Include: Child Development Therapy, Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work Services, and Parent Coaching


  • Our education program brings children of all abilities together in an enriched and nurturing learning environment.
  • Our students benefit from low student to teacher ratios, inclusive classroom environments and related services including Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech & Language Pathology, Applied Behavioral Analysis and nursing services.

    • High Quality Early Childhood Program – providing preschool for 3-5
    • North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten – Smart Start (NC Pre K)
    • Wake County Preschool Special Education Services – referred by Wake County with an IEP

  • ABA uses evidence-based strategies for developing positive skills and behaviors while reducing challenging behaviors.

  • TLC provides intensive, individualized Applied Behavior Analysis and Specialized Consultation for children, teens, and adults with Autism, Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities, Challenging Behaviors, or other conditions.
